Focusing on Alignment and Integration: Practicing What We Teach

Thursday, June 24, 2021 12:00pm - 1:00pm EDT

Host: Association for Talent Development
By: Lisa Gary, Chief Learning Officer, Trane Technologies

In this session, Trane Technologies will share how their Learning University met the challenge of an aging L&D strategy head-on before the need became urgent. As they reviewed the options for conducting the refresh, they decided to use the same tool the executive team uses: the strategy choice cascade model. They wanted to practice what they taught and facilitated with others. Leadership at Trane Technologies believes that if you are not continuously improving and innovating, you are becoming obsolete in a demanding and competitive volatility, uncertainty, complexity, and ambiguity (VUCA) market.

In this session Lisa Gary, chief learning officer of Trane Technologies, will share a use case and describe how the learning function at the company moved from a current state assessment and external environment scan -- which included extensive research as well as benchmarking -- to recalibrate their future direction. Once this was determined, Trane Technologies assessed where they needed to play to have the greatest effect on organizational performance. But it did not stop there. It also included reviewing the capabilities and management systems needed to ensure execution and results.

As Lisa shares her case study, she will include why using the model was important, how it promoted learning across the team, and the impact for moving forward. She will also provide tips and lessons learned from working using the model for this challenge. As a result of participating in this session you will be able to understand the model and how it helps align with the business objectives and help determine learning priorities, an example of how it was used, and resources to use in your own practice.
