Katie Egan is the Chief Executive Officer and co-founder of CourseArc. Like many entrepreneurs, Katie realized the only way to find the right solution that met all of her needs was to create it. Katie banded together with Bethany Meyer, and in 2015, CourseArc was born. Prior to developing CourseArc, Katie spent her career as a dedicated teacher, and often found herself feeling frustrated with the lack of technologies that integrated well in the classroom. She realized she could have a greater impact on the lives of learners everywhere by empowering educators to integrate better methods and technologies. That led her to pursue her Master of Instructional Design from the University of Maryland Baltimore County (UMBC) in 2004.

CourseArc was Katie and Bethany’s brainchild and comprehensive solution to the problems they encountered with existing tools on the market which were difficult to use. Many of the tools were not fully WCAG and Section 508 compliant, required downloaded software, had expensive single-license pricing, didn’t allow collaboration, and made it difficult to establish and follow consistent design patterns while developing a course. CourseArc was introduced to the market in 2015 and has since become the leading content authoring and management system (CAMS) that supports organizations across the globe as they facilitate the collaborative creation of engaging, equitable, and accessible online content. Katie is responsible for countless successful course development efforts that have a significant impact on organizations and their learners. She is passionate about addressing gender gaps in STEM-related fields and encouraging young girls to code and embrace technology. In addition to running the show at CourseArc, Katie co-founded HowGirlsCode, a non profit that offers after school technology programs for elementary school-aged girls.
