Responding to an alarming turnover rate of 20.5 percent within new hires’ first six months, in 2021, the Center for Learning Excellence in collaboration with HR and Employee Engagement at University Health designed a solution called Initiate Greatness, an onboarding experience, to increase employee retention.

A six-part webinar series, Initiate Greatness connects new hires to each other, the organization, and resources. Essential elements include a comprehensive communication campaign, strategy for leadership involvement, a job aid, and the incorporation of rewards and recognition. The results? Turnover decreased from 20.5 percent in 2021 to 18.7 percent in 2023, saving University Health $2 million.
