ATD Research will be discussing the data and findings of their latest research study on skills gaps for government employees. 

In this webinar we will concentrate on what contributes to the skills gap, the current state of the skills gap, who is responsible for closing the skills gap, and methods to address the skills gap. 

Key findings from this report include: 

  • 76% of TD professionals think there is currently a skills gap in the government workforce. 
  • 78% of TD professionals expect a skills gap in the government workforce in the future. 
  • 96% of TD professionals think there is a major or minor skills gap in managerial and supervisor skills. 
  • 96% of TD professionals think there is a major or minor skills gap in project management skills. 
  • 72% of government agencies are using live, instructor-led traditional classroom training to bridge skills gaps. 
  • 66% of government agencies are using coaching to bridge skills gaps.

Rocki Basel, Ph.D. joined the Association for Talent Development (ATD) in 2022 and is the director of research. Before joining ATD, she was a researcher for other national membership organizations. Her research interests include workplace culture, employee engagement, mental health, and organizational communication. She has a Ph.D. in communication studies from Kent State University.

Erick is an experienced Talent Management and Organizational Development leader with over 25 years of experience in executive leadership, post-merger workforce integration, and talent technology across multiple industries. As a Talent Leader and Chief Learning Officer, Erick has led many successful program and system implementations, which include selecting and implementing Cornerstone OnDemand at three separate organizations. Erick’s eight-year career with Cornerstone has seen him have success in roles of pre-sales consulting, Regional Sales Manager, Manager of Account Management, and Sr. Alliances Manager. This broad experience and his success as an effective communicator of talent strategy, value, and execution has led to multiple speaking engagements and publications. Erick Also served as a Member of the Georgia House of Representatives and serves on various non-profit and professional Boards.
