Laurie Miller, director of research services at ASTD; Justin Brusino, community of practice manager at ASTD; and Karl Kapp, professor of instructional technology at Bloomsburg University present the findings of the recently released research report, Playing to Win: Gamification and Serious Games in Organizational Learning. In this report from ASTD and i4cp (Institute for Corporate Productivity), the use of gamification and serious games is explored. One in four respondents said their organizations currently use gamification in learning, and one in five use serious games.

Professor of Instructional Technology, Bloomsburg University, Institute for Interactive Technologies

Karl Kapp is a professor of instructional technology at Bloomsburg University in Bloomsburg, PA. He writes the widely read Kapp Notes blog and is a regular contributor to ASTD’s Learning Circuits blog. Karl has written or co-authored six books on the convergence of learning and technology, including the bestselling book The Gamification of Learning and Instruction. In that book, Karl explores the research and theoretical foundations behind effective game-based learning. He examines everything from variable reward schedules to the use of avatars and games to teach prosocial behaviors. Karl’s latest book The Gamification of Learning and Instruction Fieldbook provides instructions for implementing the ideas from The Gamification of Learning and Instruction. Karl is committed to helping organizations develop a strategic, enterprise-wide approach to organizational learning.
